Dibon Cava is an exciting sparkling wine project developed by the Tetas family, owners of Bodegas Pinord, founded in 1949 in the small town of Vilafranca. In the early days, Miguel Tetas would load up a cart with two barrels of wine and make the overnight trip to Barcelona where it sold out rapidly. Now the train from Barcelona arrives at Vilafranca, directly opposite the large oak doors of Bodegas Pinord, behind which you’ll find the beating heart of their bottle fermented sparkling wine operation. Specialists in making Cava, the vines of Bodegas Pinord are situated on the fertile plateau in the Penedes region, just inland from the Mediterranean Sea. The grapes growing here, native varieties such as Macabeo, Parellada and Xarello, provide an oasis of greenery in an otherwise traditionally dry Catalan landscape. The wine itself is soft and aromatic, with a steady sparkle and is a perfect complement to Catalonia’s rich culture.
